The collection contains separate records of both St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, as well as the records of the combined St. John Mark. These records include by-laws and pastor, church council, and membership lists; also included are records of baptisms, confirmations, marriages, funerals, burials, communicants, and church histories. There are historical documents and miscellaneous information such as clippings and anniversary celebration programs.

The St. John Mark Evangelical Church was organized in 1981. The Lutheran church was the result of a merger between St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, both of Homestead, Pennsylvania. St. John's was founded in 1874 and was the first church established in Homestead.
